Is it worth fixing?

I have a 1960 CL-17 5.5hp Johnson that i'm in the processes of restoring. After cracking the cases I founds that one of the bearing surfaces on the crank is scored. Everything else appears to be in fine condition.

Is this the worth fixing? How expensive is a new/used crank, assuming you can find one. Would greatly appreciate the forums feedback before I go into the great unknown. Thanks.

That would be a CD-17?? So how did the crank get scored without damaging the mating part? Whatever. Put a free want ad for the crank on the Antique Outboard Club's website www.aomci.org Be aware that bearing damage and tossed rods on those motors usually comes from water ingesting up through a defective/improperly installed carbon seal on the top end of the drive shaft. Of course, everybody is quick to blame it on the oil. Make sure that seal is 100% right whenever you have it apart.

Thanks for the insight. CD-17!! Duh on my end. The bearig surface n the connecting rod was also scored but I would think that the crank is the bigger issue. RJT

When you say "bearing surface" is it the bearing itself or the crankshaft journal?

I am familiar with a process called hardchrome plating that is used to resurface wearing parts on expensive or hard/impossible to get parts.....including crankshaft journals.
I have not seen it referred to in any posts in iBoats forums.

Is this due to cost (high), availability of reasonable used parts (they can be found relatively easily), or something else?
