I am putting my lb together and the new one has only 3 bolts attached to the studs for the windage tray instead of the 5 my tray needs. So 2 questions
1. can I get a shorter trey and if so were from I googles it and called napa to no avail?
2. Should I just take the tray off? i thought these things only helped at 5000 + rpms

Re: Windage tray

I can't help much with your parts dilemma, but I have some thoughts about the windage tray's usefulness.

They do help when an engine is run at higher rpm's for extended lengths of time, and also act to dampen the oil action in the pan somewhat when the engine gets tossed around. I also think they tend to act as a baffle on acceleration by keeping the oil from being able to slop up out of the pan at the back which keeps the pickup convered by the most oil possible.

I would keep trying to find the solution to getting a proper working windage tray on there.

...and that's what a windage tray is for.

You can get windage trays at Summitt racing along with the extended main bolts.

You can also get an oil pan with a windage tray made into the pan.

Re: Windage tray

I got some bolts from a race shop it is on( my neighbor said I should try there right after this post).... the only concern I have with the lower end is a little play in the oil pump pickup. It will move when I apply ALOT of pressure So i guess I am going to weld it up.

Absolutely. The last thing you want is the oil pick-up tube to fall out and burn up your engine

I agree with the above - I always weld the pick up on the pump.
