New guy here and thanks for having me!

I recently was given a Evinrude 5.5 Fisherman with a weedless foot (so I'm told) by my brother inlaw. He has had it hanging in his shed for about 4 yrs. It looks mint but had a cracked fuel filter. I replaced it and on the 3rd pull it started!!! the modle/serial # is 5302M-E13506. From looking on this sight it apears that the fuel/mix ratio is 32:1, is this correct? Anything I should be aware of?? I'm planning on using it to duck hunt with on my gheenoe.

THANKS in advance!!

I just saw the motor ID list on the top after I posted the original post and I think if I'm correct it is a 1963. Is this correct?

Thanks again!!

Hold on, a 5.5 did not have a weedless foot. Something is fishy here. Got a picture of that thing?

Yea, those weedless props typically were on the old 3 and 4 hp motors.

True enough in 1963. Interestingly enough though, in the late 40's to about 1949, Evinrude offered the Zephyr 5.4 horse four cylinder(!) with a weedless lower unit.

yea, I seem to recall a certain year the Zephyr had a weedless prop. As a matter of fact, I believe 1949 was the last year they were built.

Re: What year is my motor?

The two blade prop for the 50s - 60s 5.5 hp and that later 6 hp had quite a bit of curve in it. I wonder if that's why the BIL thought it was "weedless."

It may not be weedless but I was told it was because of the heavy curve in the 2 blade prop?? I got the motor running but I noticed it isn't peeing/sptting. I was told that it should "spray" out of the little triangle shaped port on the back of the shaft. Is this correct? How hard is it to replace the impeller on this yr motor? I think I remember reading somewhere that a part of the top of the engine had to be removed to replace it but I could be wrong.

Thanks!

Re: What year is my motor?

I believe you have to pull the powerhead to get at the shift linkage on that one. Get new base gasket, and whatever the round seal is (someone will chime in w/#'s) Not too bad a job w/standard 1/4" drive socket set.. You CAN get at all the bolts! Then waterpump change is normal deal, but if you get a new one, you can upgrade the housing and impeller, or just get the original impeller and use stock housing.

Thanks for the reply!!! I need all of the help I can get! So I need to get a new seal for any that I take apart and what is the advantage of the upgrade for the impeller / housing, any? I plan to use this motor to duck hunt and I'd like to get it going really soon if possible.

Thanks again!!

Re: What year is my motor?

Housing upgrade uses an impeller like a 9.9/15 (taller, less diameter), and a metal cup. Nice setup. If your older housing isn't grooved up, a replacement impeller will probably last just as long. Not too much more $$ for the replacement kit.

Re: What year is my motor?

Should be impeller-wise. But, if there's no oval shaped cover on the side of the 'leg' to get at shift-shaft coupler, and you separate the lower unit, and there's no coupler there either, then it is indeed a powerhead removal to get lower off.

Re: What year is my motor?

I noticed that this is for a 5.5 Seahorse, would this procedure work for the 5.5 Fisherman as well?? Not doubting you just had to ask.

Thanks !

Same motor, different paint and cover.
