We've been talking about computers a lot lately and I've been getting my system "geeked out" too. This is the fruit of my labor - my editing/business computer, running four monitors, with a KVM switch that allows me to switch the far right monitor to a second machine. The video portion actually isn't hooked up in the photo, because I accidentally shorted something with the audio jack, but that will be fixed tomorrow.

Now I can "iboat myself into a frenzy!"

Yeah, she does pretty much run the house. She's an old gal - 17 years old - and a bit set in her ways. She doesn't care about the puter, but that is her chair! She's sitting behind me in it, right now. She's sleeping and I'm having a snack and watching King Kong, while ripping music CDs into the second puter.

I moved the office from the shop to the house now that its cold, I have been looking for a nice long desk like the one you have, need to find one made from real wood not that particle board crud.

Mine's oak - bought it close to 30 years ago, but refinished it with polyurethane about five years ago. It's solid wood and weighs a ton! The side pieces are just Walmart junk though. As for the chair - its seriously funky and needs to be replaced, but my cat would probably claw my eyes out in the middle of the night, if I threw her chair out!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm ..... well, I do have the onboard vga head still unused ..... :D

Actually, what I would really like to do is to use the white monitor on the little EMachines that it came with and put another Dell 24" wide screen on the desk! That's a bad mac daddy! Five different, selectable input sources, four USB ports, two data card ports .... I don't know, it might fry eggs too!

Re: My Geek, Photo And Iboats Central

I began with a similar setup, but finally gave up trying to keep things organized and rid myself of the garbage collector I called a desk..

That screen which resembles a television is my monitor. 1080p makes for a killer PC monitor. I've waited, oh, forever for television screens to update far enough to become a real PC monitor. 1920x1080 resolution means i-boats looks downright tiny (when people complain about 800x600 photos being big, I shake my head). Luckily I coded up a firefox plugin which modifies the site to be full width and .. ahem.. ad free.

For those wondering.. yes, it is as clear as a monitor and the color is 10x better with the 10,000:1 contrast ratio. And for size difference, that monitor to the left in the second photo is a 24" LCD.

So Jay, you are in a like crowd when it comes to being geek. After all, nerds do it for free.. Geeks get paid! :p

I only have two 24" widescreens on my desk. :) Besides my day job, I do digital circuit design consulting at home at it is nice having the two monitors.

I edit photos. I use the center screen (24" Dell) for the image (Photoshop) and place tool bars, etc. on one of the other screens. I'll also open a few image folders, play a movie, open a website .... Having that much screen territory, just makes it easier to do these things.

Lowkee, trust me, my desk gets like that sometimes too.

Bruce, I like your setup too. I really want one more Dell 24" and would consider three to be perfect. If you've ever seen an Avid Editing Suite (movie business), that is typically how they are set up. Once again, tons of screen area makes things really efficient for working.
