I have seen here a few times a guys web page where he posted a ton of pictures and steps for working on the 9.9-15 hp omcs...

I think he had a bunch of fishing info on his site as well

I am changing over from a long shaft 15 to a shot shaft

I picked up a short shaft drive shaft and shift rod..

I got it all apart, but I am wondering about the length of my copper pick up tube....and a long black piece of rubber that was slid over it...

wondering If i need the long black piece with the short shaft set up???

also wonder which rubber insert goes into the water pump housing....

i have some left overs from some other water pump installs, and I have a new impeller.....theold housing was damaged where the water tube was supposed to enter into the rubber insert..

so maybe they were using the wrong insert previously!!

thanks

The link from the FAQs board is not working but the link to Leroy's Ramblings in the side bar of the home page will get you to everything..
http://www.sschapterpsa.com/

Dunno if it answers all your questions but the parts diagrams at
http://shop2.evinrude.com/Index.aspx?s1=a05aefe1ccff9cba21e807c474e71d20&catalog_id=0&siteid=1
may well help

I'd expect to be able to shorten the water tube by 5"

thanks, i found it earlier... as for the water tube....Id like to save all the parts that make up the long shaft conversion, to be able to sell...

as so id like to get a hold of the standard water tube...

do you just pull the copper tube out???

or do you have to take apart the exhaust housing???

thanks

I think you will find that the water tube and its grommet fit into the flange at the top of the inner exhaust tube from above so you will have to remove the powerhead and then the inner exhaust tube in order to change it.

If you can get hold of a long watertube shorten the one in place at the moment and keep the other with the long shaft parts you remove.

It does Vic, powerhead comes off, 4 bolts hold the exhaust tube on, once the exhaust tube comes off the water tube slips up and out. It's important to pay attention to how the tube is oriented for reassembly.

Play it safe and replace the upper water tube grommet, as they usually get old and collapse, thereby leaking water and reducing the flow into the block and this reduces the cooling. Mine was bad, I replaced it 6 years ago and found last year it had completly collapsed, yet the engine seemed to pump water OK, but now that it's fixed there is a big difference and it runs smoother with more power. R&R of the power head is pretty easy, you leave the flywheel on and remove the whole engine, takes about 2 hours including replacing the exhaust tube and upper grommet, and power head to exhaust housing gasket.
