Aerator Pump(s)

I may need to replace the aerator pump(s) as my livewell will not fill in my 2002 Tracker DV-16. I wanted to pick up the aerator pump(s) first as the boat is out of town and I want to have the correct pump or pumps should I need to replace. Does the pump or the switch itself control whether the pump fills automatically or manually? I believe it is the switch, but just want to make sure. Will just about any pump be compatible? Tracker has informed me that the aeraotr pump on this boat has been discontinued. Also, will the boat have only one pump? Or will there also be another pump that recirculates the water? I also have a bait bucket type small live well in the back of the boat. Thanks.

~~I've replaced the livewell pump on my '98 Tracker Pro Deep V 17 a couple of times and I just go to Wal-mart and pic up an Attwood:

Not sure if your boat is like mine, but mine is at the transom and you have to access it through a small access hatch in the splashwell directly in front of the motor. Change this pump out first, it's the one that fills the livewell.
The worst part about changing this pump out is the small access hole and having to work one handed.

I appreciate it. Does yours also have a second live well that is a bait bucket? I was wondering if there is just one or if there is a second one that fills the bait bucket or if there is an additional pump that recirculates the water. Also trying to find out if it is the pump itself or the switch that manually or automatically fills the livewell. Thanks.

Yes, I have the baitwell too. It's fed by the same pump and controlled by a valve at the outlet inside the well, you'll need a second stand pipe for the baitwell so it'll fill and drain.

There is a second recirculating pump for the big livewell, to access it you have to remove an access panel under the drivers console.

Does the pump hum or whine when you turn the switch on? These things are pretty noisy when they run. If you can hear the motor running but the livewell doesn't fill, there's a valve on the outlet pipe in the livewell that turns the water on and off and it may be turned off.

If the pump doesn't run I'd say it's either the pump itself or it could be a fuse, have you checked the fuse?

I checked all fuses and they are all ok. I may have to check for an inline fuse. The recirculating pump is in under the drivers console? Would I be albe to see it or is under the floor? I heard that I may be able to just replace the cartridge??? How do you know if it is just the cartridge? Thanks.

It's behind an access panel under the console:

If your boat is like mine was, the access panel is carpeted and held on by 4 screws that are hidden by the carpet knap. You have to feel around for them at each corner and remove them with a screwdriver.

To tell if your pump or cartridge is bad, remove the old one and go buy a new one and install and hook it up. If it starts running when you flip the switch the old one was bad... it's what I do. These pumps aren't expensive and you can always use a spare.

... btw, you can probably remove your pump and touch the 2 wires to the terminals of a 12 volt battery to see if it runs. If it doesn't run, it's the pump or cartridge... and that's probably what it is. Like I said, I've already replaced my pump twice in 16 yrs. and since your boat is 12 yrs. old it's past due for a replacement.

One more thing:

If you find that access through the access panel is difficult (and you will, especially if you're a big boy), you can take the boat apart a little bit for much better access.

I've taken mine apart twice and it's pretty easy... and goes back together easy too:

I was able to find the pump that recirculates the live well of my livewell. It was behind a removable carpeted pices of thin aluminum. I now have both pumps working. I think I'm going to replace the flooring this winter. I don't think I'm going to not use carpet this time and just use some type of bedliner paint in a light color or find out if I can purchase sheets of the anti-slip stuff that has a little padding, like the stuff you find where you feet go on a waverunner.
