If you are running windows 8 on your machine, you want to make sure and do the windows update to version 8.1 soon, it is rumored that the way Microsoft will support 8.0 will change next month, so you want to make sure and upgrade as soon as you can, I did it yesterday and it is a very long process, took me close to 20 hours to do the complete update/upgrade, so do it at night when net traffic is low, but it did upgrade without a hitch, you can download an upgrade adviser to check your computer to make sure it meets the requirements of the upgrade and it will tell you what needs to be addressed.

I upgraded mine to 8.1 I can't remember how long it took but it was no where near 20 hours. More like 1 hour.

I updated my wife's computer months ago and she has been having problems printing from Microsoft Word every since. My step-daughter's computer came with 8.1, and, guess what! She has been having problems printing from OpenOffice's word processor. I have no such problems using Win 7 on the same network. No solution that I have been able to find.

NYBo, are you getting error messages? If so, let me know and I will see what I can find, I do know, unless you refresh your network every once in a while, you will have problems, I did with Win 8.0, I would have to go in to my computer and click on my network icon to refresh the network, windows 8 seems to have a timeout set on the network if there is no activity for a while..

20 hours? 2 cans and a string for an internet connection to an 8086? We updated a few of our home machines, maybe an hour if that.

The printer diagnostics sometimes indicates the spooler service isn't running but the service console begs to differ. Sometimes restarting the service fixes the problem for one print job. This problem only occurs with word processing software; other apps seem to work fine.

OK, let me do a bit of research and see what I can come up with, after running win 8 for almost 2 years, if there is a problem to be had, I have probably experienced it!

We have had some issues similar to yours with our Windows 7 network at work with printing. Try loading a different driver, even if it is the wrong one, then reload the correct driver. When it asks if you want to use the one currently installed, say no. We do a complete uninstall and reinstall of the drivers for our users and it seems to correct the issues. Can't hurt to try.
