Mystery material around trailer wiring

I'm rewiring a trailer and notice that the builder or previous owner filled the holes around the frame with a thick rubbery black filler material with a grainy texture.

I can pull out the filler and it's still slightly malleable, but when I run the new wires the filler is probably too cured to properly reshape.

Can someone tell me what this material is and where I can get more?

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum!

Not sure what they used or why.
Maybe had the mindset to keep water out of the frame rails to avoid rusting? Personally I like the idea of leaving them open for drainage and drying .

Thanks, Big D.

The holes are not along the bottom of the frame, so any water that flowed in through the hole would not run out. Also, the holes are big enough that the wires would likely wear on the inside of the hole while going down the road.

Think I'd just go to hardware store and find some rubber grommits to fit the holes.
