Sea tow or boat us? Why? I need to get either or by tomorrow and wanted some advice. Any deals around on either one hahah. Thanks

I have Vessel Assist (Boat US) and have been very happy. I had to use it once on Lake Mohave and it saved me a $500 tow. Very fast response too. I have the 30 mile limit for the ocean, but that is not an issue for me. I only do kelp beds and never go near that far out.

I pay about $150 a year (freshwater only is $58 per year).

We have Boat US for both the emergency assist and insurance. Freshwater lake use for us, locking through, as well.

first, pick the one that has a franchise closest to where you plan to break down--they charge from the time they leave their dock. As far as quality of service, that is 100% a LOCAL factor--every operator is different and it is not a factor of which company they are with. So check you fellow boaters on your water for reputation.

I get towing insurance with my boat insurance policy. It covers towing up to some certain amount (several hundred $, don't remember exactly how much). This way, it doesn't matter who tows me.

I also get tow insurance with my boat insurance. We pay $21 a month for full coverage on the boat and it includes up to $500 in emergency assistance.

Be careful with the insurance $500 emergency services. A tow bill by any of the towing companies can VERY quickly go over the $500. Those of us that have needed a tow know that. I'm guessing that the towing bill starts from where the towing service leaves their dock, not from where it picks you up and drops you off. I needed a tow for about 1 mile, but the tow company had to go about 15 miles to get me. My tow bill was $675.

+1 In 10 years of boating and being on both sides of the tow line I've never needed a professional tow.
