2003 Sea Ray 5.0 MPI electric fuel pump won't run

I have a 2003 Sea Ray 5.0 MPI electric fuel pump won't run. Yesterday we were on the lake and all sudden the boat just shut down. Got it home and realized the fuel pump isn't coming on. I have changed the relay still nothing. I disconnected the fuel pump plug and on my volt meter it allows you to send 12 volts to the pump and the pump runs fine. Thinking it might be the oil pressure switch but not sure how to test it or if that's even the problem. Lost on what to do next. Thanks for helping me out!

Hi there, welcome to iboats! Found on the engine in the area of the relays and ECM you will find some fuses for the fuel pump. You will have to remove a plastic black cover to gain access to the fuses. I believe there may be a pink wire going to the fuel pump fuse.

There is 2 conditions that the fuel pump will run in. The first is when cranking the engine and the second is when the oil pressure switch turns it on.

Thanks for the help I'm new to boats with computers and just found the site. Awesome site. I will check the fuses tomorrow and report back. I checked the fuses under the dash where all the gauges are and all are good there. I figured there had be more fuses located somewhere

On your 5.0 MPI engine model, the oil pressure switch does not directly control the power to the fuel pump/s. If there were to be a problem with the oil pressure switch, you should be hearing a horn and down on some engine RPM.

A malfunction of the oil pressure sensor will set the fault Oil PSI CKT Hi, Oil PSI CKT Lo o Oil PSI Lo.

Upon key ON, the fuel pump relay receives 12v battery power through the fuses at terminal 30.The relay powers both fuel pumps and signals the ECM that the engine is ready to start. Listen at key ON for both fuel pumps to operate. A malfunction in the fuel pump relay circuit will not set a fault.

So I can rule out the oil pressure sensor because it's there aren't any horns going off and I wasn't down on rpms when it shut off. I know the pump that is located on the engine (when looking at the engine and your facing towards the transom and the bow of the boat is behind you) on left side close to the filter is not getting power when you turn key to on position.

Your cool fuel should not be in the starboard side below the fuel filter (you statement: left side close to filter). The fuel pump will be on the port side (your right side) behind the motor mount, down low.

Did you find the fuses Fun Times mentioned?

There are 2 relays on the engine and both are the same. Pull both off and swap them and see what happens.

The fuel pump down next to your water separating fuel filter is your low pressure boost pump that helps deliver fuel to the high pressure pump. If the pump is an original Mercruiser boost pump, the wiring is T'd in with the high fuel pump. Keep in mind that the pumps will only show 12v power for 2 seconds at key up then it will show 12v power while cranking or running when working normal.

I can't find the fuse panel located by the engine only fuse panel I have located is under the gauge panel up where the drivers feet would go

The fuses were discussing are not in a panel, they are sort of thin rectangular black rubber pieces close to the relays. They have a rubber top which is removed to expose the fuse inside. They use the spade type automotive fuses.

Feel like complete idiot found the fuses you all were talking about. And the fuse was blown
