I am new to wiring and electrical in boats, before I acquired this boat all i had was a Rigid Inflatable with no need lighting. Now, I have a 12' jon boat and would like to go fishing after dusk. I would need bow and stern nav lights as well as maybe some interior courtesy lights to see inside the boat more easy. I will be building a small center console in the boat where the battery and fuse panel will go. I spent the good part of today trying to figure out how these work, and i still haven't come up with much. I took a shot at a drawing schematic of the boat wiring, I know it is wrong but I would like to be educated on how to make it correct. Sorry for the sloppy drawing.

Nothing wrong with your drawing, as far as it goes. I would direct you to some old threads with great diagrams, especially one on wiring nav lights, but the drawings have been removed.

Thats very helpful, looks along the same lines as mine, which is good. I just don't want to invest all the money and time installing it and then find out that I did it wrong.

Interesting. Not to sound like a newb but all those numbers are just switches, correct?

Np, they are actually the typical terminal(7 term illuminated DPDT ON-OFF-ON) assignment numbers. I think it is sort of a standard.
