My 1998 Mercs 5.7 efi dont have risers only elbows and there is a plug in front of them. What is it for? Im wondering if i can attach somehow a water hose i could flush elbows( the weakest link) while having boat in the water thus slowing down corrosion. Has anybody done this? is it possible?

that's a quick way to introduce water into the exaust system and hydro-lock the motor. the plug is there because the elbow has other applications for plumbing.
Some have been known to raise the drive, add muffs, lower the drive and flush that way.

Ayuh,..... 'n even if ya jury rigged a system to it, it won't really flush the most important area, the gasket area,....
