I am currently running a 13 5/8 X 14 prop on my 2014 Yamaha 70. Top speed and hole shot are fine but it trolls too fast. What pitch prop should I use for trolling only? I am going to buy this prop and only use it for trolling. The current 14" prop trolls at about 2.3 mph and I would like to get down around 1.0 if possible. Thank you for any replys. Ron

I can't see that motor trolling down to the speed you want, get an electric trolling motor. 14p seems a little small for that motor. I'm sure you already checked the actual WOT RPMs against the max rated WOT RPMs for that motor?

Thank you for the quick reply. I do have an electric trolling motor and will use it if I can't get down to the speed I want with a new prop. Yes I have checked wot/rpm's and that is not my concern when trolling. I was wondering if a 10 or 11" prop would troll down around 1.0?

A 10 p might get it down there. might.

Might want to think about a drift sock instead.
Place a strap between 2 forward cleats, and attach the sock to it, so the sock is under the boat, about mid-ship.
Easy to release when you want to move, and out of the way if fighting a larger fish.

You can get a decent sock and strap with float for under $100.

Have you checked on the Easy Troller by Ironwood Pacific? Just google it.

It costs about the same as a prop and won't effect the normal performance of your boat.

It says it can troll down to 1 mph.

A quick calculation with a 9" prop 700 rpm 42% slip nets about 1.5 mph. And you would have no control of trying to slow the speed to match conditions
ie: current or wind aided speed. Are you taking into consideration wind and current with your present results.
A 14" prop @ 2.3 indicates 42% slip I think you can see that wind and current could affect your apparent slip number.

Understand. But what about when you're not trolling? I guess I just don't see why use the main motor to troll 1mph when you have the quiet of an electric. I feel like I'm missing something?
