I'm getting closer to getting my "new" boat in the water and it appears that I will need to do some work on the rudder. At the very least, the rudder is bent and I'll be replacing the stuffing so I'm looking for options for a new rudder. This is my first boat with a rudder so this may be a stupid question but are these things fairly universal? Do I simply need to find one for the right size shaft and approximately the same size as what's on the boat now? Can I put a larger rudder under her because this one seems aweful small for such a big boat but then again, this is my first boat with a rudder so I really don't know.

Ayuh,..... I'd think rebuildin' the rudder ya got would bring the boat to near original condition,....

Ya don't wanta change things ya know nothin' 'bout, as it probably works fine, as designed,...

As Bondo said, having it straightened should be no big deal (unless it is really bent badly). If you do want to replace it anyway, an 'exact' match shouldn't be necessary. The rudder stock diameter is the most important (obviously), and from there just getting close in size an d profile shouldn't affect performance.

Thanks Ned. Useful (not condescending) answers are harder and harder to come by these days...
