Constant power to fuel pump

I have a 98 Wellcraft that when the battery is hook up the fuel pump constantly runs even with the key in the off position. I replaced the fuel pump and the relay but still the same problem. Has anyone run into this type of issue before that could point me in the right direction. I know the power runs through the alternator but before I replace it I would like to get some thoughts on it

Does removing the purple wire on the alternator shut off the fuel pump?

It's a 98 wellcraft but what engine? I'm guessing a carb

Edit: Your previous post in 2013 was on a 5.0 Volvo, is this the same boat or a Merc?

Shouldn't the power be running through an oil pressure switch?
