SX Drive Won't Pull - What am I Missing?

2004 Chaparral 215 SSi, SX-M1.60 drive, 5.0GXI-D engine. Need to replace the trim hydraulic lines on the port side, so I'm trying to pull the drive out to gain access. Drive has some galvanic corrosion in the six stud hole, but doesn't look too severe. Pulled the six nuts, removed the shift cable hardware, pulled the aft trim cylinder pin, and she won't pull. Tried working putty knives around the joint and can get the starboard side to gap maybe 1/16[SUP]th[/SUP] of an inch, which snaps back when the tools are pulled out. Tried to knock it out with a 2x4 and a mallet – no movement. What am I missing? Everything I’ve read makes it seem easy to slide out, but this one is a no go.
Thanks in advance for any tips.

The only thing I can think of, is that the u-joint bellow has a leak, water has entered and the shaft and bearing is stuck, because of just a little corrosion. On a mercruiser that was stuck, I placed a large piece of wood on top of the outdrive, between the drive itself and the transom. When lifting the outdrive by hand, the woodblock was squeezed between the transom and the neck of the outdrive and I managed to break the outdrive loose.

Trim the drive all the way down, and remove the 6 bolts. Use a block of wood to jam the drive so it cannot move UP. Trim the drive up, and witness the power of hydraulic pressure.

Yeah that's what I'm going to try. If that doesn't work next step is to try to pull the gimbal ring out a bit by removing the upper & lower pivots. Hopefully that will give enough room to access the lines. What a PITA just to replace hydraulic lines! Some engineers should just be slapped...

I had the same problem with my outdrive - the studs were seized by a ton of corrosion and no amount of pulling or using the trim rams to push it off would work. I had to resort to other techniques - http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engin...ck-suggestions

Try double-nutting the studs and back them out of the gimbal housing or pull the drive by removing the hinge pins. That actually turned out to be quite easy for me.
