Okay sorry to hijack your thread but apparently I'm too stupid to post a new one. I bought a 79 fiber form 21' with a 305 Volvo penta/280 out drive. I rebuild the motor and now I'm having trouble getting it to pump water. My water pump throws water all over the place. I've called Napa and they quoted me 149.99. Does that seem right? I've replaced the water neck fitting and re installed all the drain plugs. The pump doesn't even create suction if I put my hand over the intake port on the pump. And it constantly leaks water when I supply it with a gaeden hose at the in intake hose. Amy ideas?

you can rebuild the raw water pump. just a few seals, a bearing and impeller.

$150 is a fair price for a complete pump.

$150 is likely the price for the circulation pump. You want the raw water pump that mounts on the crankshaft.

1.The drive has a 1/2in hole on the bottom that needs to be plugged to run on the hose.
Duct tape the muffs in place to help seal the holes.
2Take the pump off and try to blow through either of the outlets as you turn the shaft..
It shouldn't let hardly any air through if any at all.
Open the pump and look for wear on the brass. Any deep grooves? Anywhere? Pics.
The cam on the inside can wear down.(easy to replace)
