We recently purchased a 2009 Four Winns Funship with Volvo 5.7 GXI (300 hours) and duo prop out-drive. We have had it out a dozen times without issue. Yesterday, we were in some chop cruising around 3000 RPM. When I raised the outdrive, I heard a faint beep-beep chirping. Lowering the out-drive, it went away. When I dropped the RPMs below 1000, raising the outdrive did not recreate the chirp alarm. All gauges at all times are normal. I suspect that raising the out-drive above a certain RPM is causing the alarm but I am not sure why. The manual has nothing on the issue. Any help or insight would be appreciated

:welcome: to iboats

Not a VP expert but there are a couple sensors which could cause the issue. The drive has a sensor in the bellows which if it senses water it will sound off. Also if the water pressure drops off this to can cause the issue.

My suspicion is this: the older VP manuals state not to run the outdrive trimmed way up over 1000 rpms due to all the machinations the u-joints have to go thru at that angle. Probably easy to overheat the trunnion bearings. So it would follow perhaps VP tried to integrate the trim angle signal and the ERPM signal into an irritating buzzer to prevent operators from doing what could be damaging, long term.

I have an `08 5.7 GXI and I am not aware of any wired alarms anywhere in the outdrive unit. The only thing that I remember being electrifiyed is the trim sensor. The beeping must be coming from an engine block related malfunction.

Correct. I don't think they were put in the bellows until 2012-13. Then it was a water sensor/alarm
