I need to electric start a 1999 - 25hp Mercury with out the controls to sell it. I?m thinking a ?store bought remote start box? exists or I can make one. I can use the manual choke.

Sorry if this subject has been ?hammered?; not finding an obvious thread with a search.

A battery, jumper cables and a screwdriver will do the trick.

Connect the battery with the red cable on the positive starter stud and the black cable to the block. Use the screwdriver to jump between the large stud on the solenoid with the large red wire coming from the remote connector and the small stud on the solenoid with the wire, possibly white, coming from the remote connector. There will be plenty of sparks.

After the motor starts, use the choke to shut it off. HTH.

Thanks GA boater. I've done the screwdriver trick to confirm the starter works but not to start the motor. This motor takes a while to start when its cold.

Amazon sells a trigger operated remote starter switch for $14 that comes with alligator clips. I'm thinking it will work the same way - - maybe a little less "dramatic".

If the engine is hard to start normally, there is no magic box or trick that will make it start easier. The trick is to determine why it starts hard. Perhaps all it needs is a shot of fuel/oil mix in the carb throat, pull the choke, and then do the screwdriver thing.

Thanks everyone; I'll try the screw driver trick. This 25hp is now on my 16ft aluminum bass boat (came from my pontoon) and having a hard time deciding if I want to sell it. The bass boat had a 70hp Yamaha.....so big change...close to being under powered.

Maybe I try it;...now looking for a side mount control.
