Picked up this boat, motor and trailer for $500. I was told its a 1980 StarCraft but I cant seem to find anything close to it. I am wanting to open up the front and put a platform, can I do this without weakening it too much.

If it's post 1972/3 it should have a conforming HIN (Hull Id Number, boat equivalent of a VIN):

Did it come w/ any and all paperwork for boat, motor and trailer in your state?

As an outboard model, the actual year of manufacture isn't very important, esp if you plan to decapitate it and make it a fishing boat. BTW: Here iboats tin dry dock it's often called a bow-ectomy, and has been done several times. Most successfully.

If it is the same boat, it's important to show pix of the interior, because it's built completely different then every other SC I've seen pulled apart. Built differently means any changes may need to be done differently then similar changes to a Starcraft.

Since you're in Canada, ignore the state info I posted. If it's the same boat from the other topic, then you don't have any paperwork at all right? Did you get what ever you need in Ontario to confirm ownership before you do any work to it?

Yep same boat, had to put it on the backburner. Just checked again and no numbers to be found in that area. No paperwork at all, but ill check into it. I'm not overly concerned of the year, its one solid boat, just curious who makes it so I can find some pics of the original.

If you go look at the interior pix in the other Topic I linked, it isn't an SC. The internal structure on the bottom of the hull is completely different. 'Ribs' run fore and aft as stringers....

Not 100% sure, but I don't think it's similar to the LoneStar 64osby is tearing into either. Windshield shape looks late 60s early 70s to me though

No pix of Crestliners show the diamond shaped bow plate running down to the keel either. All those I looked at have the lapstrakes terminate into the same narrow aluminum strip as the keel along the bottom of the hull.

Regional Canadian maker maybe?

Well I got a bit of info, it was licensed in Toronto, Im sending the number to transport Canada to see if they have a record of it and what info they can give me.

Registration shouldn't be a problem, just check with Service Canada and DO NOTHING until you have a valid registration. It looks a lot like the Springbok that I'm rebuilding/redesigning. Post more pics of the interior so we can possibly identify further.

Looks like a 73 springbok, we may have nailed it. Have you removed the floor to see how the ribs go? Did you find any id numbers? I think I will forgo the bow-ectomy till next year as I want to be able to get it in the water this year.

When you get your paper work all fingered out the closed bow to open bow deck isn't that hard and opens up a lot of room and creates a lot of storage space too. Here's some pics of one I did:

The edges of ANY laminated wood product is always the most susceptible point of entry for water penetration. That's why it is soooo important to take extra care when prepping the wood and precoating it prior to glassing and also if and when drilling into the edges. For the Norwood OSB product shown above. Here's the details on what they say about their product...http://www.norbord.com/na/cms/wp-content/uploads/OSB-Information-Sheet-Dec-2-2014.pdf This is comparable to most all other laminated plywood type products. Again, it's all about encapsulation and then care and maintenance. Exposure to Moisture ? All rated Norbord OSB has an Exposure1 bond classification. Although panels should not be directly exposed
to the weather or moisture on a continuous basis, the Exposure 1 on Norbord OSB indicates that unprotected exposure during ordinary
construction periods will not adversely affect the structural properties. Exposure to adverse moisture conditions could result in edge
swell. Sanding may be required to level uneven edges prior to finish-covering application. Exposure to certain moisture conditions could
also result in development of mould and mildew.

Was just curious how to build the transom. Do I laminate the 2- 3/4" ply sheets with fiberglass resin?
