I have 77 280 TRS with the GM V8 350 in it. The motor turns over but we are not getting any spark. We checked the ohms at the coil and they are in the range that they are suppose to be. The points seem to be good but can't check since we don't have the gap feeler at the moment. After checking the points and coil what would be the next step to try to test to get a spark?

I would replace the points and condenser and set appropriately

Can't tell by looking at them. You could use a meter and go thru some tests, but with points, just replace them and set them as stated.

Got the feeler and will test them. But will most likely replace the points and condenser. The boat has been sitting since 93.

What voltage should the coil have the terminals?

Point will oxidize during non-use , they should be replaced but you can clean them with some sandpaper or a nail file. Gap can be set using the flap from a paper match book. You need 12V at the plus side of the coil.

With key on and the points open you should get 12V on + terminal. If points close you will get close to 0V.

the boat has been sitting for 12 years. replace the points and condensor, cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. Replace the fuel filters, pull the carb apart and freshen the gaskets as they have long since dried up.

Already replaced the plugs and filters. Got new points and condenser but as soon as the we got them the start crapped out for the second time after we did a replaced a couple parts but have a new one on the way.

When I went to get the condenser and points yesterday the boat store gave me the condenser for the distributor and I asked about the condenser on the outside by the coil and they said they never seen something like that and that it isn't necessary. But the mount for the coil has a bracket for it and it looks to be stock. What is this part?

Here is the mount. It is on the bottom of the picture below the coil.

Ayuh,.... Ya only need one condenser, whether in the distributor, or at the coil, but not both,...

So I can get rid of that external condenser that was attached to the coil mount?

The one on the distributor is likely a noise suppression filter.
