The neutral position was straight up and down. It has shifted to about a 45 degree angle back towards the rear of the boat. How do we get it back to perpendicular?

Welcome to iboats :welcome: great having you aboard.

Sounds like a cable may have slipped on you. Time to check those cables from the controls at the helm all the way back to the engine. If the cables look correct, then the linkage from the engine to the lower foot could have slipped. So it is time to look over those things to see what happened and fix it or retighten the linkage back to the center position... It really isn't that hard to do!

What's changed,..??

Did it work one day, 'n not the next,..??

Any repairs attempted,..??

Any observations made, other than stated above,..??

What motor, 'n What drive,..??

Did the motor's idle point move with the shift neutral point,..??

Have you checked the cable movements at the motor/ drive,..??

Welcome. Like Bondo said: WAY more info needed.
Does it work ?
Sounds like the shift handle might have came loose?? Depending on the type of shifter??
A side mount, there is a set screw on the bottom of the handle.
Or a cable clamp came loose?
Pics are always welcome.

Yes the shift handle is on the side and the nut came loose. We have tightened it and then tried loosening and re tightening after moving shifter and can't get it back to perpendicular

Ayuh,.... Move the lever so the drive is in neutral, 'n the motor is idlin',....

Loosen that nut, Pull the lever, reposition to straight up, 'n down, or where ever ya want it,.....
Then push the lever back on, the nut, 'n tighten it,....
