Hi,
I have a Volvo Penta 4.3Gxi 2006 with just 200hrs. It starts making a noise once I raise the rpm just above idle and it increases as rpm increases. I recently changed belt, tensioner, the small pulley and alternator. I might and hopefully be wrong but It looks like the noise comes from inside the engine. Initially I thought it was a bearing issue from one of the items I recently changed. But it isn't.
I recorded I short video on youtube. Here is the link.

Can anyone help me? Any idea where that noise could be coming from?
Thks

Pull the belt and run it for a few seconds with it off and see if the noise is still there.

Lubricate part 11 quick squirt of wd 40 or use lava soap on your serpentine belt now if you clean your belt with the soap that has to be done while the engine is running and is very..i repeat very dangerous. You drag the soap bar on the inside of the belt while the engine is running...actually you could strap the soap bar to a stick and drag the inside of the belt that way...by far safer.

I removed the belt and run for a few seconds without it and the noise is gone. Put the belt turned on, noise is back.
Part 11, 10 and alternator are brand new. I replaced them thinking could stop the noise. $$$$...

How does the circulation pump feel? Put some side pressure on it with your hand and rotate it.

Is the belt new? I just went thourgh this with a new belt...ribbed style and it was nothing but a squeaker the issue was solved with a gator back from goodyear. I have no ideal why a gator back wouldnt squeak but its as quiet as a mouse.

By putting side pressure and rotating the circulation pump feels nothing different. Can't feel anything. It rotates as it was new. When I rotates faster I could hear some fluid that is probably the water inside the pump. But no vibrations at all.
Yes, the belt is also new, and I might be wrong about it but I have that strong impression that this noise comes from a metallic material.
I will try the old belt I saved for emergency to test if the noise remains the same. I can post a longer video on you tube if that helps.

Well, I have to admit that coming to this forum was the best thing I did and should have come before.
I was predicting the worst but the surprise is, I put the old belt in and the noise is gone.
I learned that I over estimated the problem, and most important skipped the sequence of checking and eliminating possibilities. I sure won't forget this costly mistake.
Thank you so much Tail Gunner and bruceb58 !!

Get a mechanics stethoscope. It will help pinpoint where the noise is coming from.

Take a close look at your crank pulley i think it will be a bit out of alignment with your upper pulley's...on ny 2000 4.3 a quick eyeball leads me to believe i may have a built in issue there. I just havnt the time to check it close....chasing down a short again and i beleive it's going to shorten my life so to speak.
