So i just got a 1990 Four Winns 200 Horizon, The motor runs great, yesterday was the first time in the water and it seems as though when going into forward throttle it takes a second before engaging the outdrive and it only engages at a slightly higher rpm its hard to keep it slow in the no wake zones and when trailering. I have the same problem going into reverse it takes a few seconds to actually engage. Is this a big problem? What can be causing it and how hard of a fix am i looking at?

My first thought is your shift cable needs replacing, they stretch over time. Could need an adjustment but in most cases it just needs replacing

You can buy after market ones but I would stick with OEM since you can still get them.
OMC part number is 0987661. I would stay away from Sierra for this and most parts including bellows.

You also need the special tools to adjust them.

Get an OEM manual and read up about these Cobra drives.
I sent you a PM

Here is a good place to start.
