Hi All,

I have a Four Winns H200 (2007) with a Volvo Penta 5.0 GXi SX-A Stern Drive. I need to replace the two Trim Cylinders.

Volvo Penta proposes three different model categories:
- Full Tilt: 22187385 (Port) & 22187386 (Starboard)
- 42? Tilt: 22187387 (Port) & 22187388 (Starboard)
- 32? Tilt: 22187389 (Port) & 22187391 (Starboard)

I am a bit confused about choosing the suitable models for my boat.

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Cheers,
Manuel

Ayuh,..... Full tilt, means just that, the entire length of the ram is used,....

The 42?, 'n the 32? rams are limited to that much travel, so's to not interfere with a swim platform or such,....

They're really not all that difficult to rebuild once you get into it but you may have to buy a tool set (3849636) from Volvo to make it easier on you should you decide to give it a go. Also all the info of how to do it usually comes with the rebuild kit...Or the info would be found in the Volvo SX-A service manual too. There might even be some youtube videos online to help give you some ideas by now.;)

Another option would be to find a local Hydraulic Cylinder Service and Repair Shop, they typically have or could easily find matching seals and O-ring's.

Unfortunately the rams for your drive model at $1,026.11 each seems to be on the higher side of cost making rebuild more desirable for most folks looking for a more cost efficient way of doing a repair. If your cylinder rams are plagued with corrosion then new would definitely be one of the best option at almost any price.....Sort to speak.

As for which tilt limit to get is like what Bondo mentioned above. If you have something above the drive that could be in the way, you'll have to figure out what angle you'll need for your drive to stop before hitting something. If nothing is in the way, you can probably use anyone you want as long as you have clearance both on top and below so you don't drag the bottom of your drive including going in and out of hilly driveways, launch ramps etc., hooked up to different vehicles too. Full tilt is usually best though when possible.

You could try measuring the outer cylinder then measure the inner ram at full trim up and see if there is a length difference between the two.

An angle protractor tool may help as well, http://www.harborfreight.com/dial-gauge-angle-finder-34214.html

Hope this helps in some way, good luck.:)

Where did you get this price ? $1,026.11 Is this for both?

$623.00 EA at Marine Parts Express. New

E-Bay
Volvo Penta Trim Cylinder Rebuilt US $299.00
All you have to do is figure out which one you want. The 32 or 42
Your rams fit
SX-A, DPS-A, SX-B, DPS-B and Ocean X outdrives.

Rebuild kits $145.00 on E-Bay

Me i would take them to a place that rebuilds hydraulic pumps.

Oops, Thanks for looking them up elsewhere, I normally do that but was being distracted earlier and running out of time. But when I looked up the rams, in the second link I posted above, I thought man those are really expensive at 1 026,11, but re looking at things, that must be the European price.

Running the numbers online, I see them in the $525.00 range.:)
