HP Rating for DP-SM 2.32

Ok here's what I got going on. I'm am in the process of converting my OMC Cobra to a Volvo DP-SM. My question is how much HP can the DO-SM with the 2.32 ratio handle. Also how hard would it be to change it over to the 1.95 ratio. I got a good deal on the outdrive that has never been used. My local mechanic tells me It can handle a 5.7 but I am starting to have my doubts. I did see online where Volvo mates the 2.32 to a 5.7L for high altitudes. Thanks for any information any one can give me on this.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,.... So long as ya get a prop set to limit the motor to 4800 rpms at Wot, there ain't No problem,....

Otherwise, Ya,... Yer gonna have to replace the upper gear set to taller gears,....

Thank you for your response. I am going to get a prop set that will put my WOT at 4800 RPM. If I wanted to change my gear set it would be the upper set. Would the different gear set fit or are there different upper case sizes. Thanks again for any input.
