1983 Alpha One Gen 1 upper unit gears gone

I have a 1983 Chris Craft scorpion with a merc 898 and alpha one behind it. Just found this today. So should i rebuild it or buy a used one. What would it cost to rebuild my self vs buying a good used unit.

I rebuilt mine after buying speciall tools and parts around 1200 bucks.. but I also just wanted a reson to buy tools and I do alittle work on the side. Its cheaper to go sei. Used is a gamble
