I recently just purchased a 5 gallon metal gas can off off a friend.while hooking it up the fuel line the outboard motor side fit just right with a good seal but on the other end of the fitting that meets the gas tank was being pushed out by two pins that prevented a good seal to the gas tank. The tank is empty and has no gas in it but I am curious why those pins are pushing out the hose line if anybody could help me resolve this problem it would be appreciated thanks a lot..

You have a bad hose line connector. One of the pins vents the tank and the other lets the fuel out when the fuel line is connected.

The fitting fits the fuel and air "prongs" just fine ..it's just the two very small pins above those "prongs" you can kind of see what I'm talking about in the picture link I posted...still a bad fitting you think?? Thanks again!!

The 2 small pins are valves with a spring on them.--One lets are in and the other lets the fuel out.--Are both small pins sticking out the same amount ?

???--------There are springs on those 2 pins and those springs will push the fitting away from the housing !!

I used to replace the o-ring on those 2 valves on a regular basis about 45 years ago.--Have not done any recently.----It sounds to me like there is nothing wrong except some cheap aftermarket connecter perhaps !

I have three OMC type plastic tanks, but don't recall seeing anything other than the two "prongs". Should all tanks have them? My tanks have something like this: fuel tank connector.jpg
