My problem is after installing a new water pump and thermostat the motor is still running hot. There is no water coming out of the exhaust.
A blockage ?

The recurring problem I have with the 84 model is with the grommet at the top of the water tube.
Corrosion round it squeezes it over the top of the tube until it cuts off the water flow..
The grommet is a different part number from 85 onwards so I don't know if the same problem will occur
You will have to remove the gear case again to check on the impeller drive key and that you fitted the water tube into the water pump correctly.
While it is off connect a hose to the water tube to see if you can get a flow up it. ( I also found that if I poked a stiff wire up the tube I could feel the grommet closing over the top.)
I will try t add a couple of photos ( failed once but will try again)
BTW I found that when taking the gearcase off the sail/ yachtwin models it is essential to remove the gearcase c/w with 5" extension,, clean up the drive shaft then remove the extension and fit it to the exhaust housing before refitting the gear case
