Hi need advise my 97 150 Johnson developed a problem. the no oil light stays on without engine running when you turn key on , The system check goes through it sequence as it should then oil light stays on engine running or not. I have hooked aux tank with oil for trouble shooting. VRO pump is working pumping fuel and oil. I have unplugged VRO 4 wire plug and light still stays on. I have unhooked oil tank 2 wire and light still stays on. Next I will check tan/yellow wire for short, then people have said if that not shorted then the tach with system check must be bad. Do these go bad. Help I am retired and can't afford taking it in. I have 30 years of mechanics under my belt and the VRO was replace a few years ago Thanks Mike

I assume the system works off a N/O relay on the pump side. Pull the connector off fuel pump and put a meter across tan and yellow on the pump side. You should see that status change. if not, you have a bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay
