Electric Fuel Pump

HI need some guide ness at 78 I just can’t get everything together in my mind. My boat has not been in the water for the last couple of years. Went to start the boat and get ready for some usage and now having a problem with no power getting to the fuel pump. I traced the ground wire to make sure it was good and followed the power wire from the electric fuel pump that wire went up to a oil pressure sensor which is a 2 pin version from there the wire went up to the +on the distributer with another wire going to the started solenoid. My question is does the fuel pump only get primed when you are turning the engine over? Also is it possible to put a air hose against the oil pump sensor and blow air to see if the sensor closes to let power through? Thanks Gary

We could sure use what kind and type motor were working on, 4, 6 or 8 cyl, and Merc or other motor. Without that it makes us other old guys have a lot more trouble trying to figure it out. For the time being I'm going to provide some answers based on a carb engine with an electric fuel pump.

No power is applied to the fuel pump when the engine is not running and there is no oil pressure. You could apply air pressure to the oil pressure switch to close the contacts, but don't do that there is a much easier way. Remove the oil pressure switch plug and put a jumper wire across the contacts. Turn the key to on and it should run.

The fuel pump should run while the engine is cranking, this is from the other wire you mentioned which is coming from the starter.
