perma-lube gimbal bearings do not need seal

perma-lube gimbal bearings do not need grease retention seal in front of bearing. Wish I knew that. Spent 20 on seal and 45 on seal mandrel kit.

Yup. Not only that but I used the outer race of the old bearing against a 2x4 and new bearing race to drive my bearing in. Lots of you tube videos out there to show ways to save a lot of money.

Even on the ones that need grease you don't need to change the seal.

I hear u. Here's mine I made out of a mailbox post some lady knocked down and a hatchet.

Lol your right. I have mercruiser manual #6 and it's as vague as my first wife. It states to change it so I did. Stupid manual. Lol

Think of the positive side of the seal being in place....It may help keep less debris/dust partials from the engine side getting to the bearing and should the U-joint bellows all of a sudden fail for what ever reason, it may just even help slow the water flow into the boat vs pouring in with a bigger hole from no seal in place giving you a bit more time to figure something else out.:encouragement:
