Well, I am your classic weekend warrior, meaning the boat get wet from rain far more than from lake water !

This year, the fuel gauge on my Starfire 170 LE seems to be stuck on full. How do you go about diagnosing if it is the gauge or the sender ?

If it is the sender how do you replace it ?

My bet would be on the sender rather than the gauge. There should be a deck plate in the boat that is over the top of the tanks sending unit. You have to remove the sender wire, ground wire and then the screws that holds the sender down. Don't use any power tools when working on anything fuel related! You can plug the sender back in and see if manipulating the float changes the level on the gauge.

Wiz - Gonna move this to the Electrical section where gauge questions come up all the time.

Does the needle move at all after turning the key on?

No, the needle is stuck on "hard" Full.

It did work for a couple on minutes when I took the boat today (I could tell because the needle was bouncing between 3/4 and F), but then went back to "hard" Full.
