StarCraft _____?

I posted this over at the TinBoats forum, and they suggested I come over here and ask you guys, so here goes:

I have a 14' StarCraft _____. It has a 1958 25hp Gale Buccaneer on the back of it. This thing has a history to it--my dad had this for 25-30 years, sold it to a friend of mine in the mid 90s, he traded it to his brother in the early 2000s, and his brother recently gave it to me!

Engine has no spark--I know from reading I need at minimum to put new coils/condensers/points on it.

Since I believe these are the same tires my dad put on it in the 80s, I went ahead and purchased hubs and wheels/tires for the trailer only to learn that the spindles on it have a 2 5/8" bearing area, not the standard 4" one. ARGH. I thought I'd take my son out on the boat powered by the trolling motor if nothing else once it was roadworthy. No such luck!

Anyway, do any of you gurus know what model StarCraft this is? I realize I do not have great pictures of it from the front or of the inside, so if that'll help in identifying it, I'll put some up after I take them.

Thanks!

Tommy

To help narrow the choices down a bit having the beam width and length would certainly help. Nice history on the boat, I take it you're going to be restroing the old gal?

I will throw my guess out there that it could be a Seafarer.

Hi bird. Welcome to the Starmada with pics. That's making a good first impression.

On the trailer - It looks like the wheel is a wheelbarrow type wheel. I don't see any lugnuts. I don't know if a 4' by 4 lug hub kit will fit on the axle stub. I got an axle with 2 hub kits for $100-$120 at Northern Tool, I don't remember exactly. It might be worth looking at upgrading the axle. You can still find the wheels, but even changing a flat means bearing removal and re-pack. So much easier to just undo 4 lugnuts.

A good place to maybe ID the boat is the Starcraft brochures - http://forums.iboats.com/forum/owne.../s/starcraft-boats/358596-starcraft-brochures Since she has a 1958 motor, that;s probably a good year to start looking. And the wood on the gunnels sort of points to that time frame, also.

Nice to have the family history and happy to have you aboard. :D

Welcome to the tin-sanity and I bet its nice to have her back in the family....

I like the Buccaneer, beautiful motors.

If it came w wood gunwales originally, it might even be pre 1958.

Good to have you and her here

After doing some research on this, I found that there is officially a "short spindle," and that's apparently what I have. I found the description @ http://blog.easternmarine.com/traile...dentification/.

I thought I would share in case someone else runs into this same issue.

Here's a summary image if you don't want to go looking at another site:

Got the short hubs greased up good and on (finally), so the old girl now has some new shoes! The winch on front no longer holds (as I found on an abbreviated trip through the neighborhood on the new tires!), so that'll be next. Then fixing the lights and getting the outboard running (even though we'll go w/the trolling motor only if that proves to be an ordeal). My lug nut "installer" is the main reason I wanna get this thing in the water!
