Like the title says. The boat will run with the key on the start position but as soon as I put it in run it dies right away. I've changed the ignition fuel pump cap rotor kill with and fuel filter. Is it the alternator or is there a relay or something. Hidden I can't find
Thank for the help

Alternator supplies power to the fuel pump once the engine is running (stopped cranking) via a cable that has a diode in line.

I've read something bout maybe the diode has broke. Is that an option or alternator all the way

Have you checked the ignition switch for power in the run position?

It's new and my radio works in the run position so I'm assuming I got power

If you have ever jumped the battery to the wrong terminals, it blows the Alternator side diode. They are built right into the wire that feeds the pump from the alternator.I think it's the green wire. When you are cranking, the starter provides power to the fuel pump relay, when it's running, the alternator takes over. The two diodes protect each source from back feeding each other. Dave-R

99 4.3gl will not run with key in run position

Just as it says. The motor will only run when the key is held to start position. I've changed the safety switch ignition switch fuel pump and relay and I've checked the diode coming from the alternator to the fuel pump. All is good. Am I missing something

Thanks

Is it running out of fuel or is the ignition not working when in run position.

Isn't this the exact same question you posted a few days ago?

It's not fuel. I've hooked the fuel pump up direct and still the same. Yes I've posted something similar a couple weeks ago.

You have voltage at the coil with the ignition switch in the run position?

Jr - Please don't start new threads on the same problem. All that does is confuse members and you get the same answers again

Verify the suggestion in post #11. If you wired the fuel pump direct and the pump is running, then you aren't getting the "run" voltage to the coil, only the "start" voltage.

Isn't this a carbed V-P? You've been chasing your tail with all the fuel pump stuff when all you had to do was look in the carb to see if fuel squirted when the throttle was advanced. If it's injected, all you had to do was see if the fuel rail is pressurized by depressing the Shrader valve on the rail.

You've thrown a lot of parts and money at this and from what I can tell, no further ahead.

Ayuh,.... Start at the key switch, 'n check with a test light for power to the ignition circuit,....

New kill switch I'm assuming that's before the alternator and I've got power to it. The relay in the box where all the wires plug into. Would that have anything to do with it

The kill switch is after the ignition switch and has zero to do with the alternator. What are you talking about?

On the left exhaust manifold. It's got the 2 50 amp breakers on it and then behind there is a relay.

That's not a kill switch. I am talking about the switch you hook your man overboard lanyard to.
