With only 3 races until the Chase begins, we're at Bristol this weekend for Cup, X-Men and Trucks. They're also throwing in the Whelan Modified Tour - Busy, busy, busy on the little track. For those of you who listen to the race because you don't have NBCSN in your cable package like me, PRN is carrying the Cup race. And for all you Truck lovers, The Trucks are going at it Wednesday night. From MRN, the full schedule;

The entry list stands at 46 for the 43 spots. Kvapil, Sorenson and Burton need to be in the top 36 on speed to make the race. If qualifying is canceled, Kvapil, Blaney and McDowell go home.

Weather could play a part in Truck practice today and race tomorrow. It's a good thing Thursday is a day off, while Friday and Saturday look passable.

News and Notes
  • Something funny is going on with inspections. Keso and Logono had their splitters confiscated because in Nascars words "the splitters on both cars were so close in tolerance the sanctioning body asked the team to err on the side of caution and change the splitters." Legal is legal and illegal is illegal, so I don't see the problem.
  • The original aero rules will be in place during the Chase, no high or low down force junk, except at Talladega. Dega will have a smaller restrictor plate and maybe other changes to avoid injuries to spectators and drivers following Dillons flight into the catch fence during the July Daytona race.
  • The Michigan aero scheme produced a dull race. Little to no passing and just like Formula 1, no excitement.
  • NASCAR is teaming with Mexico's Eugenio Derbez to develop original comedy film. Oh, OK.
  • TV ratings down again. I had no idea my inability to watch the cable races would affect the ratings so much. :D
  • From the SHR/Danica camp. Danica has a new contract with SHR, a 3 year deal. Danica also has a new multi-year sponsor stating next year. Nature's Bakery signed on. Never heard of the baker of "on-the-go snacks and foods that complement health conscious living". I'll not watch some cable races so they will remain an unknown to me.I

Maybe Nascar was telling Logano and Keso that they need to cheat to compete. They knew if they were in spec they wouldn't run like others.

The Humpty Scoop is awesome.

Trucks tonite!

Surprised Danica got a 3 year extension. Thought when GoDaddy pulled out Danica would be gone. She still must be one heck of a marketing asset.

MI has always been a dull race IMO. Cars spread out all around the track. Would be a good one to attend since you would always see cars. Unlike 'Dega where the pack flies by and you wait for them to come back around as you watch the big screen. 'Dega by far is best watched from the comfort of your easy chair.... ..

The splitter deal is ridiculous......

Danica is a money spittin' ATM on wheels, so the extension is no surprise to me.

I thought maybe the novelty of Danica would have died down since she's not performing on the track.. Maybe not.....

I copied this from Jayski's because I can't believe Nascar is being so idiotic;

Warnings issued from Michigan: The teams of #2-Brad Keselowski, #47-AJ Allmendinger and #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr. received written warnings for having to go through pre-race or pre-qualifying technical inspection three times at Michigan last weekend. It was the teams' first warning under a new system where if a team gets four warnings between now and the end of the season, it will choose its pit stall last instead of where it qualified for the next race. Earnhardt will miss 15 minutes of practice time this week at Bristol because his car actually didn't pass pre-race inspection three times Sunday. Also losing practice time this week are #27-Paul Menard and #32-Josh Wise for being late to the inspection line before qualifying

Why did Joey and Keso go through inspection three times? Because Nascar made them change splitters. Nascar says no penalties for illegal splitters, so what is the deal? I am mystified by Nascar again, unless Penske insisted on using the wrong color coordinated lug nuts.

Also on Jayski's - MWR will have no full-time teams in 2016 with Bowyer leaving at the end of this season. Rob Kauffman, MWR's bankerman is trying to join up with Ganassi, taking Bowyer with him. Once again, Mikey was overheard saying "I'm screwed!" and "Move over, Bro. Make room for me in the booth." LOL

i have been to MI several times. I sat in the 2nd row at the end of pit road. what a rush. but you couldn't see anything. the best seats I had were in the middle of turn 3 at the top. I could see just about everything there. turns 1 and 2 were pretty far away but could still see the cars. I sat up high at the start/finish line but turns 2 and 3 were hard to see. I was there for the caution free race ~1998 when dale Jarrett won. talk about a boring race...lol

I suppose having them go thru inspection 3 times they thought they would find something illegal....

Both Mikey and Boogity in the same booth calling the race? I'll stop watching Fox!

Sidebar - one of my starters for Fantasy Football is out for the season.... I need to have a talk with the Commish.... I'll stop plowing if he doesn't change the draft day!

Two of the inspections had to be for the splitter. One to find it it close to tolerance and the second after the change.

MRN and PRN is sounding better and better. LOL

Don't forget the Truck race stating about 8:45 Eastern tonight, maybe;

Truck race was good. Quite the scramble at the end. And Shrubby "didn't" win!

Maybe if Mikey payed more attention to his team and not his extra curricular activities, he wouldn't be in this position...

The best part.

MWR wasn't helped by the Bowyer spin to put Truex into the Chase a couple of years ago. MWR has had sponsor, credibility and ethics issues since teaming up with Toyota back in 2006.

Seems like Mikey is more interested in broadcasting than running his team.....

And I think he is terrible on air.

Saw a clip last night that said his building went up for sale the day that his $$$ man announced switching teams.

Qualifying results;

Hamlin is on the pole, setting a new track record in the process. In fact, the top 10 drivers in the final session broke the old record. The rest of the top 12 are Shrubby, Edwards, Ragan, Logono, Keso, Harvick, Stenhouse Jr., Bowyer, Johnson, Ku. Busch and Larson.

The Wabbit, Kvapil, Sorenson and Burton did not make the cut and are going home. Truex Jr. will start from the back after wreck his primary car in practice.

The News just keeps coming;
  • MWR will put the cat out, turn out the light and close the doors at the end of this season. Earlier this week, MWR said it would become a part-time operation. From comments by Rob Kauffmann, he tired of dropping piles of money into MWR with nothing to show for it.
  • Chip Gannassi Racing will stay with two teams and not expand to three teams and won't be picking up Bowyer when Rob "The Bank" Kauffmann buys into Ganassi.
  • Clint Bowyer will have a sign on top of the 15 this week. "Will Drive For Food"
Don't forget the X-Men are going at it tonight at 7:45 Eastern. Hamlin is on pole for this one, too.
