Force 50 flywheel magnet (507X8D)

I recently acquired a 1988 Force 50 and discovered it didn't have spark. While looking for usual burnt wires or the like I noticed the magnet had come loose from the flywheel. My dumb self didn't pay attention to its orientation as I removed the flywheel then the magnet strip. I've searched and searched for the proper placement of the magnet and even checked with a local service technician and looked in the Clymer manual for this placement information. Not sure if I overlooked it in the manual or what but could someone please direct me to the proper orientation of this magnet? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Can you look closely at the magnet and see if the residual glue can help determine how it originally fit. I had one break loose on my riding lawn mower and there was no charging the battery. And I could see how it originally fit and JB welded it back on. And it worked perfectly. You always have the option of lightly tacking on and testing to see if it works. And if not, remove it and flip it and try... JMHO!

Thanks for the input gm280. There is a space on the flywheel where it looks like the magnet strip lined up i just wasn't sure if that was proper orientation of it as the boat was last registered in '07. Wasn't sure if that mark was from it sitting all these years with magnet in that position or if that was proper location. Gonna try to just tack it as you suggested and see how that goes. With no spark will be difficult to determine if that was my problem or not if I'm unsure of its mounting location in the event it still has no fire tomorrow. As I'm merely working on this engine as a hobby i guess i should quit worrying so much lol.

south, I can't say for sure, but that magnet could have been for the stator and not effect the lack of spark. However, that should allow your stator to now charge your battery. You have a trigger coil, a CDI ignition assembly and two spark coils for your ignition set up. And one of them can be your lack of spark problem. Post your results and we can help you get this running again... :thumb:

Well I got the magnet back in the location I believed it to go but still have no spark. Like you, I think the outer magnet is for the charging system (I hope). I've verified the neutral interlock is functioning correctly so that isn't grounding the system. Gonna trace the wires and verify "deadman" switch is working properly next, as I'm in the shop now. If that checks out gonna start googling how to test the individual starting components. Everything looks to good for it not to be something somewhere simple. Just have to work through it until I find the Gremlin. Thanks for your willingness to help out someone that is absolutely clueless! Thought since I was proficient in working on vehicles this would be a piece of cake. That's what i get for thinking lol.
