Is this a good motor?

I have posted here before about re-powering my boat, looking for 50 hp to 70 hp. I have not found many motors that fit what I am looking for but the one linked has me wondering because it looks like the lower unit may be damaged.

Yeah the skeg damage is what worries me, can it be repaired for a reasonable cost? Also yes 70 hp is over powering it but I rather over power it than not get a motor. Some have the luxury of having a lot for sale within driving distance but I don't so since the weight is so close I figure it will be safe. Actually some 70 hp ones weigh less than other 50 hp ones I have found so I should be good safety wise.

I would not be worried about that skeg, unless the gearcase is cracked. But $900 for THAT motor seems a bit much.


How large is your search area?

Looking in the US ?
You should have no problem getting across the border, duty free with an american made motor.

How about buying a complete rig, taking the motor, and selling the boat?

Seems that is where the deals are.

I am not interested nor have the ability to buy a package deal as I am lacking for space. I am only looking in Canada as I do not have a passport so going to the US is out.

As for the price, seems like since there are not many around prices are pretty high so if you look on kijiji you'll notice that $900 is a little over normal but only by maybe $100-150.

Why would I need one though if I never go there. There is nothing I need from the US, I had one but it expired last year since I didn't renew it because I only used it once since I got it.

You don't need to ever come to the US, I just find it nice to have the option to jump the border if the need or desire comes up.

We are 350 mile from the border, but in July, me and the misses decided to spend a 4 day weekend on the north shore of Lake Superior.
Grabbed the passports and a duffle bag, and we were gone.

Took a bike ride around Lake Michigan and Lake Superior one week.

Went to a friend's wife's funeral near Windsor.

I know quite a few Canadiens that vacation, or winter, here in the states.
2 of them come down every winter and hit up a couple of boat shows and sport shows.
