Hi all,
The OMC 4.3 in my boat is fried and I need to swap it. I begun by removing the outdrive- I had it off in around 20 mins and moved it aside. Looking at the engine it's a drop more complex then expected I'll need a step by step guide . Where do I find that?
Thanks

A factory manual has procedures for removing the motor.

Thanks Bondo. Is it that simple? I'm familiar with auto repairs but it's my first time doing a boat.
To jerry- it's an OMC COBRA 4.3 in a 1993 seaswirl I don't have any reason to assume the engine isn't original too.

if you can pull a motor out of a truck, boats are just a tad easier.

on boat motors

follow the wiring harness back to the big connector, disconnect
remove battery cables from starter and block
disconnect throttle cable
use screw drivers, take hose clamps off exhaust
remove the 4 lag bolts on the front motor mounts
remove the aft bolts holding it to the transom shield
disconnect fuel line

lift up

And sometimes, it's worth taking off the exhaust manifolds if you want to reduce the lifting weight. You are going to take them off anyway so why not now.

agreed. and sometimes you need to have a beer first, and once finished, cut the top of the can off to put the bolts in as you start unbolting things

I don't know about the beer before lifting it out. Definitely after though.

I should just go and get ANY gmc 4.3?

I can search around for a '93 cuz my boat is '93 but easier if I can go with a later year.
I just don't want too much adapting/modding

the 4.3 went thru about 6 variations from 1985 to 2006. get the exact year as your boat if looking for minimal changes.

also, you will need to replace all the block core plugs with Brass. I would highly recommend changing the head gaskets to marine head gaskets as well.

if your block was freeze damaged, I would highly recommend buying new exhaust manifolds as well.

Ayuh,..... Mechanical, or electric fuel pump,..??

Newer than '95 will require a new intake manifold for yer carb,....

Personally, jumpin' to a '96 or newer is worth the effort,... Vortec heads,.....

93 should already have an electric fuel pump.

I would jump to the Vortec in a heart beat. Will need a new intake manifold though.
