Good Evening

I was trying to remove what the steering cable from a 1982 MCM 260 setup. I removed a cotter pin and a clevis pin that was on the port side of the steering actuator. Then I removed a hexagonal nut on the starboard side that "capped" the threaded tube that extended from a cylinder (this hexagonal nut was stopped by a grease fitting that I had to remove as well). Then I started pounding the end where the clevis pin was and that end of the assembly was starting to move (from port to starboard direction). However, it after moving about 3 inches it seems to have stopped. Do I just keep pounding? I'd like to save the cable if possible. The steering wheel actually feels quite smooth (although there is no load on it). Thanks!

once you hammerd on the end where the pin goes you FUBAR`d it. most are stuck from corrosion inside the aluminum guide tube.
oil and heat usually fix it but in some cases you remove the guide tube with the cable and cut/remove the guide tube
Guess its power steering using the old cylinder with the 2 small lines?

Ah...the ole' F.U.B.A.R. Well, at least I know where I stand now. The actuator is toast; has a bunch of corrosion. Now that I know that the cable is toast too, it sounds like a hacksaw might be in order. Thanks Ed.
