Hello, brand new to the forum and fairly new to boating. I have searched both on this site and others and have been unable to find this simple answer. I am trying to change my outdrive gear oil. I cant find the drain screw, but I'm unable to find the top vent screw/plug. The Workshop Manual has a BRIEF description on this procedure and says "Refer to the Sterndrive Service Manual". I feel pretty silly that I can't locate this vent plug. The drain plug on my motor is on the lower left. I have located a screw on the right side of the outdrive that looks like it might be a vent plug, but I'm not sure. I have found one other reference that says that if you take off the top of the outdrive where the dipstick lives, that vents it, but it was on a 2006 model.

Also, is there any tricks to getting out a seized lower unit drain screw?

Here are the specs on mine:
2002 Volvo Penta 4.3 GXi-B
Stern drive #: 4202055391
Serial # on the motor: 4012068785

Thank you!!

There are 3 screws, the drain screw, the Dipstick screw and the level screw which I think you are calling the vent.

The level screw is behind the back cover.

Use a hand impact driver to loosen the stuck drain screw.

Make sure you change the o-rings on all the plugs when you change your oil.

Thank you.Bruckeb58. Much appreciated!
Is there any blow up diagrams of this or instructions?
Are you saying the Level screw is located after I take out the dipstick screw and that cover comes off and at that point I can see the Level screw?
thanks again!

Take the plastic outdrive housing off. You will see a half inch headed screw on the right side. That is the vent/overflow screw. Remove that screw, you may need to use an impact driver, and refill with new oil from the bottom hole until oil flows from the top vent hole then reinstall the vent plug. As was stated above replace all O rings and check level with the dipstick screw at the top of the outdrive. Check out this website and find your drive manual-boatinfo.com for detailed service instructions.

Does anyone have a trick to getting out a seized outdrive drain screw? I've tried all that I know to do and I'm worried I'm going to strip the slot.
I have tried using penetrating oil. I've tried using the widest and thickest blade standard screwdriver I could buy. I've tried using a slot head attached to a ratchet. I've tried tapping on the end of a screw driver while its in the slot. I've tried an impact driver. Any other suggestions ....I'm all ears! Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Cheers

I've tried an impact driver.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,..... I've never seen a screw that won't come out with a hand impact driver,...

Me neither. Have to twist the driver in the direction you are trying to turn while you hit it with the BFH.
