On the inside of the keel of my 22' Islander is this dark epoxy? that is partial loose. My question is if I break off the loose piece what do I use to fill it in?
Do you mount an anode on the painted surface of the transom or do you remove the paint?

Not sure I understand this part. An anode is used to protect your metal parts. I have anodes mounted on my trim tabs and outdrives. Why mount one on the hull? That said, my boat has a 6" x 12" plate anode mounted on the outer transom. It's through-bolted and tied to the main 12V electrical grounding buss mounted on the inner transom. Is that what you're trying to do?

Yours isnt an aluminum boat JoLin, OPs is, you NEVER ground anything electrical to the hull of an aluminum boat.

Srim, do you slip this boat or use it in salt?

For a freshwater trailered boat you don't need any anodes.

As far as loose epoxy... Pull it out if you want and be done with it...

There should be no need for anything to seal the keel... If you find that you have a leak then we'll help you fix it correctly but some sort of epoxy poured in the bottom of the boat isn't the way.

Post a pix of the loose epoxy

If its up where the bow keel rises up from the bottom and is an odd ruddy brown smeg, its the factory seam sealer.

Does the boat leak? Or your just concerned about the brown stuff being loose?

Attaching an anode to the negative terminal will do nothing to help. As before

Okay, the name Islander didn't register with me as aluminum. Thanks for clarifying.

There are plenty of glass islanders.... Many manufacturers have sold boats called islanders.

I'm guessing he had another thread where he gave more info about the boat???

Yep
Purchase a 1987 Starcraft 221V Islander, transom has to be replaced. have read different thread on I boats.Have read epoxy some say glue I'm in a quandary as to how to proceed.

And the description of dark epoxy along the keel flaking was a give away.

Not many glass boat questions are posed that way. But remembering his 87 SC post about the transom is how I knew.

I tried to look up his other thread(s) but the forum wouldn't show em to me for some reason.
