In the last couple of times out, after launching the boat and starting the engine I am getting a continuous beep that last for a few seconds and then the engine shuts down. It restarts immediately and may or may not go through the same sequence again. I think the engine has been tilted about half way when this happens. It is almost like you turned the key off. I have checked the electrical connections as far as I know what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Howdy

Not an outboard expert but when was the last time the impeller was replaced?

The impeller in the water pump was replaced in April. The water pressure gauge shows a good reading and the engine is peeing good. Thanks for your response.

Have a motor serial number, I'll see what I can find in a manual?

Here is a list from the manual I think your engine is in. From the list a solid horn would be overheat, over speed, blocked water passage or oil level

Thanks for all your input. I am sorry I am late in responding. I have been gone all day but will get caught up with all you great folks ASAP. I have not had the engine scanned for codes, but that is a great idea. Thanks again!!!!!

Thanks!! I will check the serial number first thing in the morning. It is dark here now. I think the water is OK. Water pressure level is good and engine is peeing good. I have checked the oil levels in the remote and onboard tanks and they seem to be OK. I don't really know how the onboard reporting system reports to the ECM.

My apologies. The engine is a 2003 150L EFI, serial #OT666641. I am wondering if you can just replace the sender in the onboard oil tank? Considering all the indications that I have it seems possible that I am possibly getting a faulty oil failure signal.

Get it scanned first thing. It will tell you what set the fault so you aren't throwing parts at it.

Thanks, I have already looked up the phone number for the nearest Merc. dealer and I will call them this morning to see if they have the necessary equipment to do the scan. I really appreciate the advice.

I spoke to the Merc marine dealer today and he said that he would be glad to check the engine for fault codes. He also said my particular engine is only equipped to give out very weak diagnostic indications. He also said that the only thing that could should this engine down was either the kill switch or the ignition switch. He stated that all the other alarm conditions would not shut the engine down. Now I am really confused!!!

Will have to agree as far as shutting the engine down. The list I posted above only indicates that power will be reduced under certain conditions, none say kill the motor. You know you might just have a bad connection, in particular check your grounds.
