Can someone help me identify the boat on the left in this picture?

Interesting that there is no registration numbers on the hull. I've been able to register several small boats that had no reg numbers with a bill of sale. Getting a trailer plate requires a weight slip.

Make sure the trailer is listed on the bill of sale. Otherwise is will be a pain to get registered.

Good luck with it.

This might be a dumb question but, how do I raise and lower the trim? I do not see any buttons or controls.

I actually really like it, if I can prove to the state of Michigan thst it is worth less than 2500, I will be able to get my own title. FO You Think It's A 71?
I looked at the catalog link posted above. The 1970's had a slightly different upholstery, and the 71's didn't offer that color. My guess is its a 72.Your motor probably doesn't have power trim. So, set the trim rod for optimum performance, and then tilt it by hand.

I have never adjusted trim by hand, is that something I can do while its in the water, or just on land?

You have to either hang out the back of the boat or get out. The trim pin is moved by trial and error several times. Once you find the sweet spot you like it stays there forever and you live with compromise position. When you tilt the motor to beach the boat or put it back on the trailer you grasp the top of the cowl, grunt and groan and pull the motor up.

Garelick makes a tilt assist handle that's pretty effective if it fits your hood. Can save your back (or taking a dip in the lake). But might find the balance is good on that motor, and not such a chore to tilt it manually. BTW, there is a serial number on the hull plate -- might be of some use in identifying it.

But on that boat with that power, you'll not have to adjust trim that often ... once you find the right pin setting, that 16'er should go just fine without adjusting it very often. The motor may have a shallow water drive "tilt" setting, and then full tilt to tilt the motor up.

Okay thanks guys! I am having a small problem getting it started, the solenoid clicks when I try to start but the starter will not turn over. If I put 12 volts directly to starter it will turn over. I am guessing that the solenoid is bad, or a bad connection so I am just going to change out the solenoid first and see if that fixes the problem. Is the fuel going to be a 50:1 mix?

Solenoid is clicking, so would examine all connections. I would clean them all with sandpaper and a wire brush -- like to spray with electrical cleaner (incl key switch).

I don't know the Mercs well, but I think that motor would be a 50:1. Might be best to see if Mercury has a manual for ya' on that one.

Where are the model numbers of the engine, I'm trying to match up the correct solenoid? There is voltage at the starter when I turn the key but its very inconsistent.

So I pulled the serial number off the engine, it ended up being 1767981, which means it is a 1965 Mercury 900. Anybody know anything about these, are they good engines?

Some people swear by Mercs, and wouldn't own anything else. Others swear at them. The mid 1960's weren't their best years.

If you can get it to run, and run good, keep it till it won't run any more. Just don't put too much money in it.

I had two 3-cyl OMCs on the back of my 16V Silverline. One was a Johnson, the other an Evinrude. I couldn't ask for better performance.
