Yeap that would be my guess too, someone was too lazy to buy the correct bimini hardware.
Fixed it for ya :D Judging by the size of those eye bolts the correct parts would have been cheaper. I bet the boat could be lifted with those if there were enough bracing under them lol

LOL. Heaven forbid you save a few bucks and take the time to go to any boating or marine store and buy the correct item.

Wow FrankenCub, I never thought of that use for the eye bolts :encouragement:.I think the difficulty is trying to decide if I try to fix it and if I do how do I do that, or do I just remodel around it?:der:

Going by what appears to be rust on the eye bolt - I say get rid of them.

GA, I think you're right. I just need to figure out the best way to repair it or I can just replace it with a SS eye hook and take GF's advice and use it for windsocks.

Here is a pic of my transom. I was wondering if I should sand and paint, sand and leave it alone, or sand and use a poly or spar? Any thoughts.

I would remove the transom cover and inspect the wood closely and the edges are what needs sealing the most. Is that the original transom? I'm not sure how much good it would do you only being able to seal one side only. Also the wood support(s) for the cover look like they need some attention too.

Things have been a little slow going here in sunny California, mainly because it hasn't stopped raining for three days:facepalm:. I was hoping to get the final gutting and cleaning done on the floor. It never fails, work all week and when you have time to work on the Holly it won't stop raining. Unfortunately I don't have a garage or covered area to work in:concern:.

From the looks of it, it looks original. The wood doesn't look bad it's just peeling paint for the most part. There are no soft spots and the transom feels and looks really solid. The holly was garage kept before I got it. The floor was torn out because someone did a really bad floor replacement and foam some time ago. Allot of PO damage to floor as well. There was also a strong odor of rat urine which I was able to get some of most of the floor torn out, I just need to do some scrubbing.

I see your point about removing the cover. Maybe I can try to get it done before it starts raining too hard again. Thanks Watermann.

That made no sense with a pic that didn't show!

DT - One more place to look at the transom wood is around the keyhole cutout for the drive. You can't see much on the outside, but inside around mounted hardware is a place to look. That area seems to the first to start to go because the sealing and gaskets dry out.

It must be daylight savings time but all this stuff keeps coming up in my head. I was wondering if anyone has used a trolling plate. I currently have a Happy Troller installed and I'm wondering if it's worth keeping or not. I have read something on the Nauticus website that the trolling plates can cause back and forth wandering. I was going to install some smart tabs eventually during this build. I think it was in the Nauticus website about there smart tabs that also convert for trolling. Unfortunately, I don't think it would be easy to engage those while out on the water.

Any thoughts. Thanks as always, DT.

Tinnitus or maybe just take a Mental Health day. I am in dire need of some individual StarCraft therapy :neglected:. There's nothing more therapeutic than working on a boat. I think because I think of all the fish waiting to be caught and all the lakes, rivers, and bays waiting to be discovered..

Sitting on a 5 gallon can for a helmseat and murmuring "Vroom, vroom" is so beneficial and the low notes never affect tinitus. - Grandad

Comically enough I was joking with my brother about just that exact situation. However I make more of a motorboat sound, which is a combination of raspberries while going Vroom, vroom.

I've wondered how well those trolling plates work myself. The last boat that I had downriggers set up on didn't have one and I didn't have a kicker either, just idled it down as low as I could. Kept running into problems with the idle speed being too slow to charge the battery. Got caught out on Cayuga Lake once with a dead battery, had a Laker on and the engine quit. Ran out of juice  Someone came along and gave us a jump a couple hours later.
