Just bought a Regal Valanti 240 & educating myself with all the parts. Does the SAE J1171 marine operate the trim tabs or motor tilt? Does it take ATF fluid?

Howdy

SAE J1171 is the standard by which marine electrical components are made to http://standards.sae.org/j1171_200406/

If your seeing this on the starboard side and at the transom with a gray and black hydraulic lines, this would be the trim pump
If it is mounted and has all black plastic hoses, this would be for trim tabs

Hi,

Its located on the transom, port side of center. It has a black & gray hose. I tried to upload a pic - an attachment, this is my first post on iboats, but I keep getting an error.

Thnaks!

In most cases the trim pump is on the starboard side but can also be on the port, so it's probably the trim pump. It will look like this

The j1171 just designates that it is marine rated. It should be on all electrical parts. It took me awhile to figure that one out. Take a pic and use a service like photobucket to post it up.

Ayuh,..... Welcome Aboard,...... That pump runs the drive up, 'n down,.....

If ya got Bennett trim tabs, look for a opaque, 'n dark tinted covered little pump, probably plumbed with black plastic lines,....
It'll be squarish lookin', 'bout 4" x 5" x 5",...

Atf, or other light oil, will work in either pump,....

Hello! I've been busy putting new galley cabs in my Valanti, looking good. Now I'm looking for the canvas camper top & frame for this thing. Seems Great Lakes patterns go back to '93 & mine is a '92 - "missed it by that much" (pointer & thumb apart 1")

Robert - You really should start a new thread about the top. This section is for Mercruiser stern drives and you will have a better shot at answers in one of the general boat topic sections.

BTW - Bondo is right about probably needing a custom top.

Wrong pic link to Photobucket - Not working. Click the IMG code box for the pic in PB and paste into a message. That way works better.
