Just picked up a 1995 Four Winns 190 Horizon. It has a 5.0 motor with the OMC Cobra outdrive. I believe it is the Volvo Penta outdrive in the OMC casing with the cone clutch drive. The model numbers I have so far are Engine 3868156 with a 1.66 Ratio, and the trans is 3868175. Am I correct so far in my research? Also what preventative maintenance should I do to both the outdrive and the Engine before I start using it? Any info is much appreciated!

Howdy,

Welcome aboard!

First of all, have a look at the following thread:

http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...69-must-have-technical-information-for-diyers

2nd, Determine your model number.

Yours could be any of the following models (all boat manufacturers frequently use last years model engines/drives)

502APHUB 1995
502APHUE 1995
50FAPHUB 1995
50FAPHUE 1995

502ACPMDA 1994
502AGPMDA 1994
50FACPMDA 1994
50FACPMDM 1994
50FAGPMDA 1994
50FAGPMDM 1994

93/94/95 is around the year where OMC was switching to all Volvo but certain 95 models were still the OMC 'interim' drive (I.E. the 7.4L)

You should be able to find the model number on the engine.

3rd, get yourself an OEM OMC service manual that matches your model number.

Regards,

Rick

Sounds like the same engine/drive combo as mine.
Check the raw water pump, a guy on eBay offers a rebuild service for it as replacement is hard to find and is super expensive and repair required special tools to press bearings, so if you don't have them, cheaper to send out and have done for the season ahead.
Just drain and fill the leg oil and engine oil. Leg oil is a little different fill as there is no mid-level plug.
OMC user manual is a big help as suggested above.
Check thermostat.

You have the HU series drive based on the drive model number of 3868175.

You can buy an OEM Volvo HU set of manuals to cover your drive. Do not buy after market manuals like Seloc or Clymer. They are a waste of time and money
Here is a set on eBay

I would replace gear oil and change raw water impeller. I would pull the drive and inspect the u-joints and gimbal bearing and I would also replace the u-joint bellows if you don't know how old it is. They should be changed every 5 years. Before putting the drive back on, check the gimbal/engine alignment.
