Wondering if anyone with a carb'ed engine uses any additive ?

Seems like after coming off winterization my 4.3 Volvo starts easer, I added fuel stabilizer.
Also do you see any advantages to running premium fuels?

Thanks

NP. Sorry for the post. Being new to this engine "boat" just wondering if this is normal. Was thinking of rebuilding the carb. But not sure if needed......

I'll simply with draw, my question, and go else where......
Thanks for reply

No additives, and I run premium because I need the octane due to the compression ratio. Used to run premium because it was ethanol free ( in the land of beer and cheese), then I dug into the motor and tweaked to use the octane.

A pilot friend of mine suggested Pri-G because it was recommended for his plane -- so I use it in everything I have that's carbed...2 cycle leaf blower fired on second pull after sitting over 2 years - same with the string trimmer (my lawn guy moved away).

If you look up the MSDS on it, its not much different than any other additive out there. Personally, I would never put an additive in fuel for an airplane engine. First off, the FAA disallows any additive to be added between the refiner and the seller. Why would he add it later on? I am on a couple aviation forums and no one talks about using these additives.

There is no benefit using premium fuels unless your engine requires it like Scott's.

Yes a fuel stabilizer is ok.
But keeping the tank full for the winter is the better option.
Fuel stabilizer and a full tank, yes.

Start it and run it before the carb rebuild.
Might not be needed????
It usually takes a while before your fuel dries up and gums the carb or fuel system.

Most motors don't need premium.
Some higher compression motors do(Scott).

The worst thing(besides sinking) is not using and let it set uncovered in the sun.

I use ethanol free fuel in the boats and always treat every fill with stabilizer. I have not had fuel issues with "older" fuel and I think that is a big part of it, I have to go about 30 miles one way to get it. I started the habit of adding fuel stabilizer to each tank during a time when the boat and lake was 100+ miles away and I really did not know when I would get back to it during any given season. That way the fuel in the carbs has always been treated, so I do not have to worry about putting it in and running it at the end of a season. I only needed to do a quick trip out to drain the engine. They always seem run the same, no performance gain or hit.

I was told to use marine stabil in every tank. Full dose for winter storage and half dose while in use. Keeps the injectors and lines clean. At all times.

Thanks for being a loyal STA-BIL? customer Shaper79! STA-BIL? 360 Marine helps protect against ethanol related issues (such as rust, corrosion, and water attraction) above and below the fuel line. It is fuel system cleaner as you stated, will also keep the fuel fresh up to 1 year, and will help remove any water in the fuel. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us!

Have a great day!
