Looking at the lone star transom, it is exposed wood on the inside. Over the years im sure it has gotten wet, yet it is still solid. Why are i/o engines and many outboard models glassed in? On i/o i get it needs a plate for sealing up but why not just have a plate leaving much of it exposed so it could dry out?

My aluminum Starcraft I/O and fiberglass Glastron I/O are exposed wood on the inside.

You can buy wood with a lifetime warranty against rot, even if it is left at the bottom of a lake. Maybe the philosophical decision has to do with appearance rather than need. Or perhaps, with the right glass use, it has to do with the structural benefits of a 'sandwich' design and stress loading the skins.

This is correct, sandwich construction is much stronger.

Not all wood left exposed survives, and not all wood covered with glass rots, it has more to do with the attention to detail during construction and the exact piece of wood.

A philosophical question? so you are traveling up-stream in your barbed-wire canoe and your chain breaks.....how many pancakes does it take to wall-paper a ceiling?

I think it depends on how much of an incentive the pancakes are and how strong your hatred of the wallpapering is. Perhaps some would be willing to do it for a tall stack of buttermilk while others would not do it for a week of Belgian waffles. I wonder if the chain broke due to the force of paddling or the constant loading of the current against the barbs. Also, does it matter if it is Tuesday?

I think it's a snake eating its own tail scenario, those damn pancakes only last half an hour than your starving at which point the wallpaper glue seems pretty tasty. Metaphorically speaking the barbed wire is just your inner child's subconscious dreaming of a larger boat, which of course pancakes & bacon + large boat = yes honey i'll do the wallpaper. Now for some large mouth or walleye steaks wrapped in wallpaper. Done by tuesday, chain free.

I don't know about philosophical stuff but I know that a war between barb wire and an inflatable leaves only one winner. No pancakes needed nor maple syrup.
