Hi, I am having alot of trouble with this 74' Johnson 50hp I got. First off, I rebuilt it new rings, and seals. I put it all pack together, worked fine. I forgot to put the upper crank seal in. I cranked it before the seal with the starter and it flew like a top with the plugs in! (I didnt start it) but it cranked fast! After I realized this crucial mistake, I tore it back down, and put the thing in. I put it back together, and now it cranks slowly, and the flywheel is REALLY tight. Any suggestions? At first it wouldn't budge at all, but now it will move easier, but not at cranking speed. I know its not an electrical problem, because I saw it crank very fast before! Im worried I put the O ring in wrong on the upper crank bearing. I put it on the bottom of the bearing touching the base.

????--------The o-ring fits into the groove in the block.--------The dowel / locating pin in the block must be lined up to fit in the bearing.

You may have done some damage by bolting it up the way you have !-----Perhaps the pin has been pushed into the block.

bearings have to be down on the locating dowels or they'll be "cocked"....taper pin(s) has to be tight to align the halves before you begin tightening the the case halves...if it's any comfort, you don't have a V6 together and noticed a roller bearing on the bench
